West Midlands Police has arrested seven people overnight in connection with a shocking house robbery in which a man was stabbed in his own home.
A group of masked offenders forced entry to the address in Titford Road, Oldbury, just after 4pm yesterday where they attacked a 71-year-old man with a knife.
They fled with jewellery, an iPhone and £700 cash and left the victim with wounds to his head, face and throat; he remains in hospital in a serious condition.
At 9.20pm last night West Midlands Police officers arrested three men aged 37, 40 and 42 from an address in Cottage Walk, West Bromwich.
And in the early hours of this morning three more men aged 35, 36 and 38 – plus a 40-year-old woman – were detained following a raid in Hollywell Street, Bilston.
Detective Inspector Jacqui Nicholson from force CID, said: “This was a grotesquely violent attack on a man in his own home…we suspect the robbery was targeted and not a random attack.
“We’ve responded quickly to make several arrests but we’d still appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time that might have seen anything, to get in touch as soon as possible.”
CCTV is currently being reviewed and house-to-house enquiries are being carried out in the area.
Anyone with information should call force CID on 101 quoting log 1629 10/2 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
