Solihull Council is inviting residents to an information event to find out more about what’s available for young people with special educational needs as they prepare for adulthood.
Two sessions will be held – the first on Tuesday 16 October and the other on Wednesday 17 October – and are aimed at young people aged 14-25 and their parents or carers.
It will give young people an opportunity to see the different routes they can take after leaving school as well as find out what support is available in the borough as they get older.
Councillor Ken Meeson, Cabinet Member for Children, Education & Skills, said: “As they move into their late teens and early twenties, there are lots of things for young people to think about and it can often be overwhelming. The idea of this event is to bring different organisations and services together in one place so that people can easily find out what’s available and ask any questions they may have.”
Representatives from the Council and other organisations will be on hand to offer advice and answer any questions. From education and employment to traveling independently, there will be information on a wide range of topics for people to learn more about. Guest speakers from Solihull College, Merstone School and The Youth Council will also be giving presentations on different topics.
Councillor Karen Grinsell, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care & Health, added: “This is a great opportunity for young people to learn more about what they can do as they get older and prepare for adulthood. Whether that’s staying in education, getting a job or learning new life skills – there’s a whole range of options for people to choose from and this event will showcase all that’s on offer.”
The information sessions will take place at Elmwood Place, Smith’s Wood from 11am – 2pm (Tuesday 16 October) and The Studio at The Core, Solihull from 6pm – 9pm (Wednesday 17 October).
